The Goethe University is inviting the applicant for Master Scholarship program, funded by the Johanna-Quandt-Foundation Frankfurt. German and foreign students are allow to apply for this scholarship program.

  • The Field of study of the scholarship is From 2018 onward Goethe Goes Global Scholarship can be gifted for all consecutive masters’ programmes provided at Goethe University. 
  • The Number of Scholarships is up to 20 scholarships are awarded each year. 
  • The Target group of the scholarship is Both German and foreign students who have completed minimum two thirds of their bachelor’s degree (or another equivalent or higher degree) at a university outside of Germany. 
  • The advantage of the scholarship is A monthly scholarship amount of 1,000€ for the standard period of a master’s programme at Goethe-University (generally 2 years) 
  • Access to seminars focusing on professional skills at our Graduate Academy (GRADE), normally open only to PhD students and postdocs 
  • Access to an innovative research environment and networks that connect you with fellow scholarship holders and other advanced researchers 
  • Career support through Goethe University’s Research Support Office.

Eligibility Criteria:


The applicant must meet the following criteria:
The applicant hold or are on track to obtain an outstanding bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from university outside Germany

Applicant are looking for an interesting master’s programme and are considering a PhD in the long run.

Applicant get a stepping stone to start a successful, international career and funding for your master’s programme

Applicant are well versed in your academic discipline and are particularly interested in research
Applicant wants a platform to exchange ideas with other international researchers about the topics you are passionate about

Applicant are achieving hands-on experience in research under the supervision of excellent professors in a renowned university with state-of-the art facilities

You are highly motivated to conduct research

To qualify for admission to a Master’s programme at Goethe University, you must have already completed a Bachelor’s degree (or another programme at an equivalent level) in a relevant field, and have passed the selection process of the respective programme. 


Method of Application

The application has to be submitted via Goethe University’s Master Portal start the application form for the Master program of your choice and you will be guided to the Scholarship application.
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equal to) at least 2-thirds of which have been completed at a university outside Germany plus a transcript of records 
  • 2 letters of recommendation from professors or other academic staff (signed by hand and officially sealed), stating your outstanding or above-average performance (among the top 10% of graduates from your previous degree program) 
  • A letter of motivation outlining a study plan and demonstrating your academic ability and your principle research interest 
  • Proof of proficiency in German and/or English (depending on the language of instruction of the Master’s course) 
  • A comprehensive CV in tabular form 
  • To be admitted to 1 of the opted Master program (the selection process for both the Master’s program & the scholarship takes place at the same time) 
  • To identify one of the research units which the Master program of your choice is related to. The respective research unit should match your research interest and be a potential workplace for you in the future (you have to select a single research unit) see: “Master Programmes” or “Research Units” for details on the research units). 
  • Applicant can apply for up to three degree programs. However, you are only eligible to apply for one accepted research unit in connection with your scholarship application 
  • After you have completed the first half of the study period, you will have to submit a transcript of records proving your successful performance, in order to receive further funding (for Sinology and History after six months and for the remaining degree programs after 1year).
